VALIDATE EMOTIONS
Validating statements:
I hear that you are feeling sad.
I am sorry that you are overwhelmed.
That sounds challenging.
Invalidating statements sound like:
Don’t worry about that.
It is not that big a deal.
Don’t cry.
2. TRY THERAPY: INFLUENCE FROM EXPERIENCE
Begin to do your own work. We all have work we can do. Working to heal and develop tools in therapy helps us live with greater wellness and impact.
Those that are the greatest influencers to mental health are those that have continued their personal healing and growth because then people can see and hear how you are benefiting from the work you are doing.
3. BE A BRIDGE
I am encouraged to hear from so many of you that are seeking to support someone that you care about to find a relevant and available Therapist. As a Therapist in private practice, I consider it an honor to support you and support those that you care about. Taking the step to seek out counseling is hard for some people but it gets easier when somebody that you trust helps you connect with a resource.
Be a bridge by sharing my therapy contact information with someone needing a Therapist or Speaker:
